World reknown Colombian soccer star Carlos Valderrama, nicknamed "El Pibe"(the Kid), joined ranks with Galactics Clearwater International F.C. in 2006, coming on board as the club's Technical Director of Player Development. This former national player captained Colomiba during the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups. Famous for his passing skills and excellent goal assists, the midfielder is unmistakably recognizable for his enormous dyed-blond bush of hair.
El Pibe ended his career in 2004 after 22 years of professional soccer playing for not only first division teams Union Magdalena, Millionarios, Deportivo Cali, Independiente Medellin and Atletico Junior in Colombia, but also Montpellier in France and Tampa Bay Mutiny, Miami Fusion and Colorado Rapids in the United States.
In 2004 Valderrama was featured on FIFA's 125 Top Living Football Players list, the only Colombian to have received this honor.
As Technical Director of Player Developement of the Galactics soccer club, El Pibe oversees the development and training of the club's youth division and also serves as the club' s face in marketing and PR.
"Galactics Clearwater International F.C. is dedicated to helping children prepare mentally and physically to become role models for the future. Our mission is to develop players, not just accept the best through tryouts. Everyone is welcome at our club."
